
In 2023, through a partnership with Baltimore City’s Department of Public Works, Johns Hopkins, the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), and Loyola University were recipients of a USDA-funded grant to increase food waste diversion through expanding the network of food drop-off sites across the city to reach communities in areas with limited access to composting services.
Leana Houser, OCS’s Sustainability Manager for Zero Waste, will be discussing the Community Food Scrap expansion program during a plenary panel at the National Zero Waste Conference. She will be co-presenting with Angela Ober, of the University of Maryland, and Cara Murray, of the Baltimore City Department of Public Works.
