Farm stand on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus.

On the Homewood campus, a new seasonal tradition is taking shape, one that brings fresh energy, community connection, and a deeper appreciation for local food into the heart of campus life.

Hopkins Dining is partnering with Richfield Farm, a local family-owned farm committed to supporting regional agriculture. Through this collaboration, students, staff, and faculty can meet the farmers behind their food and experience a more connected approach to fresh, sustainable eating.

Located on a popular thoroughfare outside of Levering Hall, the farm stand has already begun to spark curiosity and conversation. Tables filled with beautiful plants, fragrant herbs, and seasonal produce naturally draw attention, turning everyday movement across campus into moments of discovery. What often begins as a quick stop becomes an easy exchange between members of the campus community and the people who grow their food.

Visitors can also explore products made at the farm too, including flavorful pasta sauces crafted from peak seasonal ingredients and delicious honey from their own hives.

The response so far has been very encouraging, with growing interest at each event. Graham Browning, Sustainability Manager for Hopkins Dining stated, “We started hosting these farm stands intermittently back in 2024, expanding to events like Picnic for the Planet and Earth Fest last year. However, we believe that having a consistent, reliable schedule will have a huge positive impact. We finally found a location on campus and a schedule that seems to work and we’re excited to continue bringing local food systems to campus!”

Offerings will change with the seasons. Spring brings a selection of fresh vegetables and herbs, while summer expands into a wider variety of fruits, flowers, and vegetables. The farm stand is monthly during the summer, with the hope of expanding to twice a week in the fall as more members of the Blue Jay community make the farm stand part of their seasonal routine.

As part of the sustainability effort, guests are encouraged to bring reusable bags to support a low-waste approach to fresh food access. Both cash and card payments are accepted.
