Izzy’s Story

MASSACHUSETTS

Junior majoring in Environmental Science, International Studies, and Spanish

Throughout her time at Hopkins, Izzy hopes to influence positive change in the realm of environmental concern, and to contribute to a more sustainable Hopkins.

Nobili combines her passions for writing and sustainability as a Communications Intern for the Office. She writes monthly blog posts that spotlight sustainability related research, classes, and individuals within the Hopkins community.

Izzy’s Work

“In order to create a more environmentally conscious campus community, we need to create a more informed community,” says Nobili. “By providing students, faculty, and community members with resources to better understand the efforts underway at Hopkins, we are providing that essential source of information regarding all-things sustainability.”

For Nobili, this internship offers her not only an avenue to exercise her passions, but to connect with the community that surrounds sustainability at Hopkins. “It can be overwhelming to enter into a new community space, eager to make an impact, but unaware of how to effectively engage,” says Nobili. “I am grateful to be a part of the Office of Sustainability, because I hope to both contribute to their efforts and to connect with other sustainably-minded groups on campus throughout my time and duties.”

Izzy’s Inspiration

Nobili’s passion for sustainability stems from her childhood and upbringing on the shores of Cape Cod. Surrounded by the ocean’s majesty and by the unique habitats that persist on the Cape, Nobili learned to respect and appreciate the natural world.

I have always felt a sense of responsibility when it comes to responding to the anthropogenic changes that are destroying many aspects of the environment.

“I have always felt a sense of responsibility when it comes to responding to the anthropogenic changes that are destroying many aspects of the environment,” says Nobili. “I am constantly inspired by the natural world around me, so I feel that it is, in many ways, a duty of mine and ours to repair the damages that have led to its degradation.

In contributing to the work of the Office of Sustainability and to sustainability at Hopkins overall, Nobili hopes to serve as a positive and effective source of change.
