Green Office Certification Luncheon

Published by jhusustainability on

Today, the Office of Sustainability hosted a luncheon to celebrate the six new Green Certified offices at Johns Hopkins. Departments can earn points by tracking sustainable actions in their office such as energy efficiency, water conservation and leadership on sustainability issues. This year’s certified offices are Donor and Volunteer Engagement (4 feathers), Journals Production (4 feathers), Journals Marketing (3 feathers), Journals Customer Service (3 feathers), Center for Educational Resources (4 feathers) and the Center for Language Education (3 feathers).

Attendees brought their passion for sustainability to lunch, sharing tips about how to keep their offices eco-friendly and event ideas for this year’s Earth Week. Our awardees are a part of our Green Team Network, a passionate collection of JHU faculty and staff who advocate for more sustainable practices in their workplace.

Certified offices receive a ranking, ranging from 1 to 5 feathers. Each of this year’s winners did an amazing job of reaching 3 or 4 feathers, many of whom were getting certified for the very first time! Points are awarded for actions such as cutting down on paper use, promoting sustainable transportation and getting involved with the Office of Sustainability. Offices also have the opportunity to innovate and share sustainable practices outside of the Green Office Certification Checklist.

Interested offices can stay tuned for next year’s chance to be Green Office Certified!
