School of Education Building Green Team

Current Activities:

The team is focused on two projects:

  • Promoting battery recycling and setting up additonal collection locations in the School of Education Building.

  • Collecting surplus office supplies to donate to teachers and counselors in Baltimore-area school systems. To donate your own materials, please contact one of the team's co-leaders.

 

 

Accomplishments:

        
  

The collection program for office supplies has been the team's greatest success with approximately 20 boxes of items collected in the first year. The team even partnered with the Krieger Hall Green Team to collect items and promote both of their teams on Earth Day 2014. Additional achievements include:

  • Green Blue Jay award recipient (2014)
  • Creating and sending a daily green tip to all employees in the School of Education Building during Earth Week.
  • Setting up collection boxes for TerraCycle items including writing instruments.

Office paper is highly recyclable, but a lot gets wasted. Waste reduction is more cost-effective than recycling because it reduces the amount of material that needs to be collected, transported and processed.
