Current Activities:

Recently, the team has been working to find local opportunities for repurposing unwanted books, materials, and supplies.

  • Team members at 1830 E. Monument St. worked to bring a recycling program to their building, which is managed by a third-party and not SOM Facilities. After collaborating with the building management, team members and other volunteers assembled bins and distributed them throughout the building in October 2014.
  • With the help of Green Team members, numerous offices have switched to more sustainable supplies. This includes using recycled-content copy paper, paper plates instead of styrofoam, as well as many other changes.
  • To date, the SOM Facilities Management office has the highest Green Office Certification score at the university.

Green Office Certifications:

Offices can pursue Green Office Certification by completing a sustainability checklist. A score up to 5 feathers can be earned and offices represented by Green Team members are listed below.

Ideas in Action

Think before you print.

Office paper is highly recyclable, but a lot gets wasted. Waste reduction is more cost-effective than recycling because it reduces the amount of material that needs to be collected, transported and processed.
